Meat facility that needed a wastewater treatment system

The Problem

A nationally known highly successful fine meats company wanted to expand and build a new prosciutto plant. Local sewer authority and state regulators required very low limits in BOD, nitrogen, oil and grease, and solids, to minimize impacts on the POTW.

The Solution

Following a treatability analysis, bioprocessH2O engineered, designed and turnkey installed a biological pretreatment system that includes, in addition to its compact bioFAS™ High Rate BioFilter (HRBF) technology to reduce BOD/COD and nutrients, several components that remove fats, oils, grease and solids.

The Results

The pretreatment system has been installed in a new, dedicated treatment building constructed behind the main production facility and has been operational since 2005 and consistently meets compliance since system start-up.
Note: Since system start-up, the wastewater flow rate has increased to ~22,500 GPD and the bioFAS™ High Rate BioFilter (HRBF) system is still reducing BOD to within compliance standards.
