bioFAS™ High Rate BioFilter (HRBF) Systems

The bioFAS™ High Rate BioFilter (HRBF) technology has been designed for the efficient reduction of BOD, nitrification of ammonia and denitrification systems. bioprocessH2O has developed a patented high-strength bioFAS™ engineered composite Looped Chord Media that enables efficient digestion of COD, BOD and ammonia.

Micro-organisms acclimate to the LCM substrate to provide maximum exposure of nutrients and oxygen to the attached growth biofilm. Constructed using durable materials to ensure long life, our patented LCM media can be deployed in virtually any system, especially rectangular aeration basins. Media Cassette dimensions can be easily modified to fit new or existing system tanks. The Media Cassettes are supported by corrosion resistant FRP, PVC or 304SS support frame structures.

How the bioFAS High-Rate BioFilter (HRBF) Process Works

The bioFAS HRBF BioFilter is a high-rate spray tower that uses LCM BioFilm media to efficiently entrap, hold and become a ridged support for wastewater digesting microbes. Unlike traditional high-rate trickle towers, our media is not packed. Media is held under tension (supported at the top and bottom of the reactor vessel), thereby keeping colonies of BioFilm separated and enveloped in atmospheric gas. There is no bridging of media or short-circuiting, and waste-digesting microbes are always exposed to oxygen or other gas. Tensioned separation of media causes solids to pass through the system and provides channels for controlled natural sloughing.

BioFilters are made up of sectioned reaction cells that are independent of neighboring cells. Each cell has its own water distribution system and recirculation tank, and sequence of flow, from reactor cell to reactor cell, is programmed to change. This allows individual cells to be used for high-strength wastewater treatment and later placed in recirculation mode without raw wastewater introduction. This sequencing enables the BioFilm in an individual cell to pass into an endogenous state, which is important for metabolic recovery.

The system measures the growth condition of waste-digesting BioFilm in individual cells and automatically switches cells if treatment efficiencies drop due to the effect of high-strength wastewater. The system is simple and redundant. Individual cells may be taken off-line without interruption of treatment.

High-rate filter systems designed to maximize the amount of Composite Cord Media in a compact design and provide “open” flow of wastewater to prevent the development of unproductive sectors common with other media.

The HRBF Biofilters are fully assembled and pre-plumbed, minimizing installation time and disruption. Includes aeration, flow, pH and temperature monitoring controls, as well as all necessary pumps, piping, wiring and control panels.
