Problem: The Guggisberg Cheese facility needed to install a wastewater treatment system to reduce the BOD, TSS, and Nitrogen from a commingled process water stream generated during cheese and dairy production for compliance with a NPDES Discharge Permit. 

Solution: bioprocessH2O supplied a bioPULSE Airlift Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system incorporating energy efficient airlift external tubular and backwashable membranes. The permeate from the membrane treatment process meets and exceeds the permitted effluent limits for discharge to a fresh water stream.

Status/Results: The bioPULSE MBR has proven effective at reducing the BOD, TSS, Nitrogen and Phosphorus from the dairy process water to meet effluent discharge requirements.
